![]() ![]() My advice would be do what is best for you, if you are really anxious then have it done. I really appreciated her honesty on the matter and did not go for it in the end as my risk is v v low. She said the hospital will offer Harmony if my risk is greater than 1:150 and if it is lower than 1:150 but I still want it, her advice would be to come back at that point. When I discussed with the doctor who did my viability scan, she advised me to wait for the NHS nuchal as I am being seen at a hospital where all the doctors are trained by FMC so the nuchal is just as comprehensive. It is costing me 475 including a viability and dating scan (they need to know the exact gestation for the test to make sure you are over 10 weeks).Īfter suffering a mc during my first pregnancy, I am almost obsessively anxious about every thing that could go wrong so I had decided to do the Harmony test and nuchal at FMC too. The test is apparently over 99% accurate. My understanding is that you get either a high risk result (meaning there is almost certainly something wrong) or a low risk result (almost certainly nothing wrong - chromasome wise anyway). I am not sure how far along you need to be for the amnio or CVS procedures to be done, or how long results take but I would prefer a non-invasive (Harmony is a blood test) test that gives a more accurate picture. They offer diagnostic testing if your risk is greater than 1 in 100. Last time aged 33 I got something like 1 in 500. The results are combined to give you a 1 in xx risk. Where I live, you get a scan to look at the nuchal fold at about 10-12 weeks (may be later than that, not 100% sure but the window is quite small) and a blood test. The NHS tests vary slightly from area to arrea. So I am assuming I will be likely to get a high risk result this time and I would rather have a clear answer much earlier on (Harmony can be done from 10 weeks and I have been told I will get the results on about a week). On your Plan) towards the cost of these procedures.I have booked for the Harmony test as I am 36 and with my two previous pregnancies my risk from the NHS tests was much higher than those my friends of the same age had. If these conditions are not satisfied, we will pay the benefit listed in your Table of Benefits (depending If included in your plan, we will pay benefit in accordance with the level of cover under Section 1 for chorionic villus sampling, amniocentesis and cordocentesis where there is a high risk of specified foetal abnormalites and where specific conditions outlined in the Schedule of Benefits for Professional Fees have been satisfied. If you look in the definitions of any vhi handbook foetal screening it doesn't include non invasive ones unfortunately. I find you get different answers off different people but all calls are recorded so if someone told you can claim it tell them to listen back to all the calls!! Moanna maybe you got lucky with laya as under foetal screening it says no cover? I don't know what heading it will fit under outpatients?Īndrea with any maternity claim vhi won't pay out until after the baby is born. No fear they would cover Sims or beacon cause these are the most popular clinics. A big advertising campaign last year on infertility and they only cover 1000 quid towards it and only cover one very small unknown clinic in the country. I don't think I'm going to get much hop off them but it's driving me nuts. Work pays for mine other than that id cancel my policy. He said feotal screening is under outpatient but Harmony test is part of pre and post natel! I think they make it up as they go along. I need to read the list of benefit again. Ur man wanted to explain foetal screening to me and I just said I fully understand what it is And I just hung up in frustration. Told them I wanted to make a formal complaint. I told them it's false advertisement saying they cover it when it's either or. I was told because I got 100 Euro towards baby massage and the 500 back from consultant that iv reached the limit. Was told feotal screening is different to Harmony test! I swear they don't have a clue. I asked to speak with claims manager but they would not put me through. So now iv been given 3 different reasons as to why my claim was rejected. I rang again today and was told the Harmony test is covered but that I had reached my limit on pre and post natel care and that's why I am not covered. Sorry to hear u are going through the same thing. ![]()
